Dinner and 2 Wines

Paige and I had Shawn up for dinner tonight. We had dungeness crab (Cancer Magister) cakes and a curry vinaigrette salad with fresh croutons. Shawn brought a Sticks Pinot Noir 2006 from the Yarra Valley in Australia, and I had a L'eCole 41 "Walla Voila" Chenin Blanc 2007 in the fridge that we opened too. Shawn had actually given me the L'Ecole for Christmas, so it was nice to be able to try it with him.

Sticks Pinot Noir 2006 Tasting Notes:

Gorgeous color. Bright red with depth. A lot of cherries and raspberries on the nose with a tinge of barnyard and hints of vanilla. Great balance. Smooth on the palate, and loaded with berry notes. Decent finish. Price: ~$19 USD. I would buy this wine again. Solid effort.

L'eCole 41 "Walla Voila" Chenin Blanc 2007 Tasting Notes:

Light yellow/golden color. Minerals are quite prevalent on the nose with a sweetness of peaches. Overall a somewhat fruity nose with hints of honey. A good deal of peaches reach the palate, and the wine comes across as refreshing. While dry, the wine does carry a little sweetness. Quite tasty. I would buy this wine again. Price: $14 USD. 88 pts Wine Advocate. 89 pts Wine Enthusiast.

We topped off the evening with some decadent chocolate chip cookies that Paige made, and Costa Rica La Amistad caffe machiattos. All of this over 3 rousing matches of Settlers of Catan.
