I opened a bottle of Waterbrook Melange 2005 in November, and this wine stood out to me because of the cinnamon component I experienced on the palate. At first taste, I attributed this to the Mourvedre grape, which is known to deliver cinnamon, but I was wrong. This wine is a red blend from the Columbia Valley made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. That's right, no Mourvedre. Hmmm. I'm not sure where the cinnamon is coming from, but it was fun to drink and experience.Waterbrook Melange 2005 Tasting Notes:
Deep purple color with flashes of red. Aromatic nose with notes of cherry and black fruit. Tons of sour cherry on the palate with hints of cinnamon. Somewhat of a damp earth component. Pleasing finish. I am going to buy another bottle of this. 89 pts Wine Spectator. $10 USD.
